White Gold: Dope or Played Out?

White/gold Nike Inflicts

As most of you know, one of the most popular colorways on wrestling shoes over the past few years has been white gold. The styling of it is a white upper, gold accents, and a gum outsole. Every single time, this is how it looks. This colorway has been featured on a number of shoes in the past few years including legendary models like the Nike Inflict, which has been a staple of the wrestling shoe market for years now. So the question has to be asked, is this just a recent trend or will this be a colorway will frequent in the future?

Nike Fury: the newest Nike model released

The most recent shoe to get the white gold treatment is the Nike Fury, which is a new model that released this year. Yet we’ve also seen the white gold from all three of the major wrestling brands. Its been on Freeks, JB Elites, Varner 2s, and like I said Inflicts as well. The question is to be asked: Is this colorway played out by now? Its not often that you see every brand use such a distinctive colorway for their models all around the same time. This would be a lot like if a couple years ago there was the Sissy Aggressors, and then also three other shoes from different brands in that same famous Sissy styling as well. Sure Adidas sort of did the teal colorway already but they did it in their own unique way. Imagine if Nike released an all yellow shoe with a red check much like the ringers right after Adidas did? Yes it would feel a little strange to see something like that. To be clear, I am a fan of the colorway. I think it looks great on these models but I’d just like to see some variety in the market. It’s a bit unusual to me that the major brands all have a shoe with this colorway. I do however enjoy the fact that wrestling is getting more and more in the tradition of retroing specifc colorways.

Just like Ringer colorway being featured on the M2 Combats a few years ago. Or when ASICS did the legendary black gold treatment for the Aggressors. I would personally love to see the famous Yellow inflicts to come back if we’re throwing ideas out. With more and more smaller wrestling brands releasing shoes like Rudis, Terra Grapplr, and Scrap Life I’d love to see if they could have their own distinctive color combos to continue for years and years going forward. But who knows, maybe we’ll see the white gold for years to come? What are your thoughts on this? Is this a colorway you’d like to see more of, or do you think its over done now?
